Insurance Tips
One of the sneakiest ways an insurance company shrinks a roof claim is by agreeing to replace only the damaged slope, not the whole roof. Problem is, shingles fade in the sun and product lines get discontinued, so that “matching” repair ends up looking like a patch job forever.
Georgia doesn’t have a strict matching law on the books like some states do, but most homeowner policies still carry “like kind and quality” language. If your insurer can’t source shingles that reasonably match what’s already on your roof, you have real grounds to push for the full slope, or the entire roof.
We run into this constantly on storm-damage claims, and it usually just comes down to documenting the mismatch clearly for the adjuster.
Before you sign off on a partial repair, make your adjuster prove in writing that the new shingles actually match the old ones.
