  • Is a FORTIFIED Roof Worth It in Georgia?

    Roof Upgrades

You’ve probably seen “FORTIFIED Roof” come up if you’ve shopped homeowners insurance lately. It’s not a shingle brand — it’s a construction standard from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety that goes beyond Georgia’s building code. The big differences: a sealed roof deck (taped seams so water can’t get underneath even if shingles blow off), ring-shank nails instead of staples, and reinforced edges where wind does the most damage first.

Here’s what nobody tells you upfront: not every Georgia insurer offers a premium credit for it, and the ones that do vary a lot. Before paying extra for certification, call your agent and get the actual discount in writing.

Either way, sealed decking and ring-shank nails are upgrades we can build into any full reroof for a modest cost — stronger roof, discount or not. Ask us to document it when we replace your roof so you have proof if your carrier does credit it.

Before paying extra for FORTIFIED certification, call your insurance agent and get the actual discount amount in writing — don’t assume it.
