Maintenance
Everybody asks about shingles. Almost nobody asks about soffit and fascia, the boards and vents running along the edge of your roof, right behind the gutters. That’s a mistake.
Soffit lets your attic breathe, and fascia is what your gutters are screwed into and what keeps water off the wood behind them. When either one rots, usually from a slow gutter leak nobody noticed, you get soft wood, peeling paint, or wasps finding a new way into the attic.
If you can push a screwdriver into your fascia board without much effort, it’s already rotted and needs replacing, not painting.
We check this edge on every inspection, not just the shingles, because a small wood repair now beats a water-stained ceiling later.
