  • Why Overhanging Tree Branches Are Quietly Damaging Your Roof

    Maintenance

Those branches brushing your roofline aren’t just annoying in the wind — they’re sanding your shingles down every time they move. That scraping wears off the granules that protect shingles from UV and weather, and once those granules are gone, that spot ages a lot faster than the rest of the roof.

Overhanging limbs also give squirrels and raccoons a bridge straight onto your roof, and a good storm can turn a limb into a puncture. Leaves piling up in valleys trap moisture against the deck, which is exactly the kind of slow rot you don’t see until it’s a leak.

Keep branches trimmed back at least 6 to 10 feet from the roofline — it’s the cheapest roof protection you’ll ever do.
