  • Squirrels in Your Attic? Check Your Roof First

    Roof Maintenance

This time of year my phone starts ringing about scratching in the attic before it rings about roof damage. Squirrels, rats, and raccoons don’t chew a hole in a good roof — they find one that’s already there. A lifted shingle, a gap where the flashing’s pulled away, a cracked pipe boot, or a soffit panel with a little rot in it is all the invitation they need.

Once they’re in, the real damage usually isn’t the noise — it’s chewed wiring, torn insulation, and droppings spreading fast through the attic. Sealing up the hole they used doesn’t fix whatever let it happen in the first place, so it’s worth having someone look at the roof itself, not just the attic.

We do free inspections and can tell you honestly whether it’s a roof issue or just an easy patch.

If you’re hearing movement up there, check your roof and soffits for damage before you call anyone else — that’s almost always where it started.
