  • Moss on Your Roof? It’s Doing More Damage Than You Think

    Roof Maintenance

That green moss on your north-facing slope might look harmless, almost charming. It’s not. Moss holds moisture against your shingles around the clock, and in Georgia’s humidity that moisture doesn’t dry out fast. Over months, it works up under shingle tabs and starts lifting them, which is exactly how water finds its way into your decking.

Lichen is worse — it actually bonds to the granule surface and pulls granules off when you try to scrape it away, taking years of shingle life with it. If you’ve got heavy moss or lichen on a roof that’s already 12-15 years old, get it looked at — the moss might just be the visible part of a bigger problem underneath.

Don’t pressure wash moss or lichen off yourself — it blasts granules loose and can void your shingle warranty outright; call for a soft wash instead.
