Roof Decking
Halfway through a tear-off, a crew might tell you some of the decking underneath needs to be replaced. That’s not automatically an upsell, but it’s also not something to just take on faith. Soft or rotted decking usually shows up around old leak spots, valleys, or anywhere ventilation’s been bad for years, and it has to come out before new shingles go down.
A legit contractor shows you the bad wood before it disappears under new material, not just a number on an invoice. If wind or hail caused the damage, documented decking rot can sometimes be added to an insurance claim, too, but only if it’s actually shown.
Ask for photos of every sheet they replace, and how many sheets specifically, before any of it disappears under new shingles.
We photograph every sheet of decking we replace, every job, before it ever gets covered up.
